Stop Discrimination Against the Unemployed!

As appalling as it may be, a shocking number of employers these days are publishing job listings with the caveat that the unemployed need not apply.  This is so backwards and plain old wrong that I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it.  We are currently facing one of the worst economies this country has ever seen and there is a glut of talented, intelligent, ambitious individuals without jobs who are looking for work.  And yet, for some unfathomable reason, many employers have simply written them off as undesirable employees.

Some states, including New Jersey, have passed legislation making this type of discrimination unlawful.  Unfortunately, Illinois is not one of them.  Our own state recently failed to pass a pending bill that would address this very issue.

If you want to show your support for a bill that tells employers that they cannot discriminate against the unemployed, please click on the link below and sign your name to the petition.  It's important that your legislators hear your voice!
